Hi, I'm Mika, an illustrator-author and editor based in Cambridgeshire.
 
In 2024 I graduated from the MA in Children’s Book Illustration in Cambridge. I work in mixed media, tailor my style to each project, and especially like to use colour and texture to convey atmosphere and feeling. I enjoy creating engaging stories just as much as finding exciting ways to communicate complex information for non-fiction work.
 
Alongside my illustrator-author work I offer an editing service. Whether it's finding the right structure and pacing for your story, fine-tuning your voice, or getting the emotional arc just right, I can help you make your picture book communicate exactly what you'd like.
 
I love observing animals and people and am always looking out for their interactions and emotions. I'm fascinated by how we humans are part of nature. Being a total language geek, I speak Dutch, English, German and French fluently, and do my best at Japanese and Swedish too. In my home country, The Netherlands, I've worked as an educator with children with and without special needs and from all cultural backgrounds. I love using creativity to bring their stories to life.
